The visuals line up more closely to the original Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions of Skyrim, but it’s hard to consider that too much of a knock given the scope of this title. For a game as wide in scope as Skyrim, its voyage onto PSVR is extremely impressive. After a series of ports that have made it impossible for Skyrim to fade into the past, the fantasy experience entered the proposed future of gaming - virtual reality. The 2011 Bethesda RPG captivated gamers with its expansive open world, but its allure came from its choose-your-adventure mentality. Over a decade later and we’re somehow still talking about Skyrim. While the gameplay loop can get a bit frustrating due to the PSVR’s limited camera-tracking capabilities, Superhot VR nonetheless provides a unique experience for PSVR owners. Navigating Superhot‘s confined rooms, sifting past, and dismembering enemies have never been as satisfying as it is in VR. Will you try and go for the kill with your next movement or come up with a less direct approach? The choice is yours. The VR version remains a fast-paced first-person shooter with an emphasis on strategy, but in VR, Superhot‘s inherent tension ramps up. In VR, Superhot employs the stop-time mechanic with the PlayStation Move controllers, which act as your hands. In the original, time stopped every time you did, causing enemies to remain stagnant as you calculated your next move. Following its headset announcement, the company then gave fans a first glimpse at the PSVR 2's new controllers, which have been designed to fit around the user's hands and include finger tracking technology as well as a number of other features such as haptic feedback and adaptive triggers.Serving as a sort of expansion to an already innovative title, Superhot VR tasks players with devising strategies to eliminate rooms full of hostile enemies with pistols, shotguns, knives, bottles - whatever you can get your hands on. Earlier this year, it was officially announced that the company is working on a PSVR 2, which reportedly could include a 4K display, eye tracking, haptic feedback, and more. Sony did note that data collected excluded playtime for Playroom VR and that when ranked by region, Firewall: Zero Hour managed to sneak into the list ahead of Resident Evil 7 in North America.Ĭelebrations aside, Sony doesn't look set to be moving away from the medium anytime soon.
